If you or someone around you has taken a fall and seem to be injured seriously it is best to try not to move the injured person or area. This is especially true if it seems to be head, neck or spinal injury, also if it looks as if there are broken bones. The best thing to do is call 911 and wait for professionals to arrive. I’m sure we have all heard this before but moving a person during these types of injuries can have severe consequences and increase the damage.
So what can you do while waiting for help to arrive? If it someone else that has fallen just stay with them and comfort them as best you can. Assure them that help is on the way and they will be taken care of. You can even lead them through deep breathing exercises to help calm the mind, ease anxiety and pain.
If you are the one who suffered the fall hopefully you are able to call for help or have someone near who has done it for you. We’ve all seen those commercials where the lady falls, she presses the button on the device that hangs around her neck and exclaims “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” These devices save lives and as we reach certain ages it might not be a bad idea to obtain one. Also if you are the one waiting for help to arrive then it will be up to you to remember to do your deep breathing and remain as calm as possible.
